Lesson 4 of 6 · The if then plan and the first two minutes

The one sentence

This is the sentence itself. One cue, one place, one first action, two minutes. Stopping at two minutes is allowed and it still counts. If what stops you is dread rather than reluctance, do not push on it here, because that is a different problem and lesson six is where it goes.

The move

The first two minutes

10 minutes or less

  1. Set a timer for two minutes.
  2. Start the thing. Badly is fine. The first sentence can be rubbish.
  3. When the timer goes you may stop with no guilt at all. That is a real offer and it has to be real or this stops working.
  4. Most times you will keep going. That is the mechanism, not willpower.
  5. Repeat tomorrow at the same time.

If it does not work

If you stop at two minutes every day for a week, that is still five sessions more than the week before. Do not let the win be all or nothing.

Write the one sentence

A specific plan works better than a good intention. Fill both halves in your own words.
