Lesson 4 of 6 · The one change, and it is not deleting the app
The gap stays, the second layer goes
Be exact about what this does, because overclaiming here would be the same mistake as the gratitude advice.
It does not close the gap. You will still notice that somebody else has the thing, and that noticing is not going anywhere. It was never the problem.
What it removes is the second layer, which is the contempt you add for having noticed. Al-Ghazali draws that line in the same place, between what a person finds in their own nature and what they are actually answerable for. Noticing is the first thing. The contempt is the second, and only one of them is yours.
And the second layer is what sends you back to the feed to feel better, which is the move that closes the loop and starts it again.
