Assessment leans a good deal on family history, and adoption often means that history is simply unavailable. An unknown gets read as a negative, which it is not. Work instead from the child in front of you: their own early development, school reports, and what an ordinary week actually looks like at home.
It is He who shapes you all in the womb as He pleases (Quran 3:6). A child's making does not depend on whether anyone is available to describe it.

A review of the genetics of ADHD reports that twin and family studies establish it as substantially heritable, while being clear that it is genetically heterogeneous rather than traceable to one cause. Heritable but not traceable is exactly the point here: family history helps when you have it and rules nothing out when you do not.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
A missing family history removes evidence, it does not supply any.
ADHD tends to run in families, and the differences in reported rates between countries say more about how a country counts than about its people.
ADHD does not look the same in two people. If someone tells you that you cannot have it because you are calm, or organised at work, or did well at school, they are describing one version of it.
The parts of the brain that plan and hold back keep developing into the mid twenties, so the person struggling at nineteen is not the finished version. Real gains come with time, though they do not add up to becoming someone without ADHD.
