When bingeing comes out of ADHD it is often boredom, or the food simply being there with nothing stepping in to stop it, and the person is not thinking about their body at all. When body image is driving it, that is a different condition with its own treatment. How often it happens and what it costs matter too. Getting this right decides whether the work is structure and what is within arm's reach, or a referral.

A meta-analysis found young people with ADHD impaired across several domains of emotion regulation, not only attention and activity, which makes eating that steadies a mood a predictable part of the picture rather than a separate mystery. It measures regulation rather than eating itself, so it supports the mechanism loosely and does not confirm the distinction drawn here.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
The same behaviour with a different engine behind it needs different treatment.
If body image is involved, or there is purging or restriction, that needs eating disorder treatment rather than a plan built around attention.
Ask for the old school reports every time. Some people arrive with a folder of every one they ever had, and you cannot tell in advance which people those are.
The checklists were built around the loud version of this, and girls are more often the quiet version. If she is struggling and nobody has ever suggested an assessment, that is worth pressing on.
Parents with one affected child often ask what they might do differently before the next one. Answer honestly: there are lists of suggestions in circulation, the evidence behind most of them is thin, and the question underneath is usually about blame.
