A browser extension that shuts certain sites between certain hours, a router on a timer, mobile data off after a set time. Pick one, set it once, and make it mildly annoying to undo. The value is that getting past it now takes a deliberate act rather than a drift. You will want to override it in the first week, and that is expected rather than a sign it was the wrong idea.
Make coats of chain mail and measure the links well (Quran 34:11). The standard is set at the bench, in advance, rather than judged by feel while you work.

A randomised trial handed people a written sheet pairing each obstacle they expected with a response chosen ahead of time, and physical activity rose in a low income group. Different behaviour, same shape: the deciding is done in a calm hour, written down, and not left to the moment of temptation. It was one trial in one setting, so read it as support for the method rather than as a guarantee about screens.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Stopping yourself in the moment is the hardest thing to ask, while a setting changed in advance asks nothing of you at the moment it matters.
Support does not have to stop at eighteen. Plan for it to thin out gradually through the twenties, at a level everyone has agreed rather than one that gets argued over every month.
If you take medication, work out when it actually comes on and when it fades, then put the demanding work inside that window. Spending your best hours on email is a waste of something limited.
Praise the sitting down at the desk, not only the finished piece. If recognition only shows up when something is completed, most weeks it never shows up at all.
