The unnerving part is how quiet liver damage is. Someone self medicating anxiety with kava can be accumulating harm and feel nothing at all until it is well advanced. If you or someone you support is taking it, that belongs in a conversation with a doctor rather than in a private routine.

Set that risk against what the benefit side looks like. An international psychiatric taskforce that reviewed nutrient and plant based treatments placed most supplements for ADHD in the weak or provisional category. Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Anyone taking kava regularly should have their liver function checked by a doctor.
Sensory integration training is popular and it does not help ADHD. Whatever value it has elsewhere, the capacity it works on is not the one that is impaired here.
When a parent is set on something that will not hold, one honest story often lands better than a pile of studies. A family finished the better part of a year of neurofeedback and watched their child slide back to where he started within weeks.
Ask which direction a person's sensory difficulty runs before offering anything. Someone who is under responsive needs more input and someone who is over responsive needs less, and the wrong one makes the day harder.
