Skip it and the behaviour plan still gets written, but it gets delivered with an edge, applied on the good days and abandoned on the bad ones. When it does not work, the child's character takes the blame rather than the plan. How a parent explains the behaviour shapes how they feel about it, and how they feel shapes what they actually do at half past seven on a difficult morning, which is where these plans live or die.
This explains how treatments work. Never start, stop or change a medication because of something you read here.
Do not rush to recite before the revelation is fully complete (Quran 20:114). Order is treated as part of doing a thing properly, even when you already know what comes next.

A systematic review of fifteen years of research on adolescents with ADHD coded the studies and worked out effect sizes for both medication and behaviour therapy. It tells you what these components achieve, and it does not test the order they are introduced in. The sequencing argued for here comes from clinical experience rather than from a trial that compared one running order against another.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
A technique is delivered through a person's feelings about the child, so the understanding has to change before the technique can work.
There is no single treatment that covers all of this. What works looks more like five things running alongside each other, and understanding the condition comes first.
Said plainly, because it should be: medication is the most effective treatment for ADHD, and by a good margin. Everything else in this area is something you add to that decision, not something that replaces it.
Somebody will eventually ask you whether you want what is best for your child. It is a sales line, and knowing that in advance is most of what you need to withstand it.
