Inside these capsules sit lots of coated pellets, some with thin coats that dissolve early and some with thicker coats that dissolve later, which is what spreads the effect across eight to ten hours. Opening the capsule does not disturb that, provided the beads are swallowed rather than crushed. Yoghurt or apple puree works, eaten straight away rather than left sitting.

'God does not wish to place any burden on you' (Quran 5:6). The verse offers a different way for someone who cannot manage the usual one, which is the spirit of finding a form of the dose a child can take.
المائدة
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِذَا قُمۡتُمۡ إِلَى ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ فَٱغۡسِلُواْ وُجُوهَكُمۡ وَأَيۡدِيَكُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡمَرَافِقِ وَٱمۡسَحُواْ بِرُءُوسِكُمۡ وَأَرۡجُلَكُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡكَعۡبَيۡنِۚ وَإِن كُنتُمۡ جُنُبࣰ ا فَٱطَّهَّرُواْۚ وَإِن كُنتُم مَّرۡضَىٰٓ أَوۡ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍ أَوۡ جَآءَ أَحَدࣱ مِّنكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡغَآئِطِ أَوۡ لَٰمَسۡتُمُ ٱلنِّسَآءَ فَلَمۡ تَجِدُواْ مَآءࣰ فَتَيَمَّمُواْ صَعِيدࣰ ا طَيِّبࣰ ا فَٱمۡسَحُواْ بِوُجُوهِكُمۡ وَأَيۡدِيكُم مِّنۡهُۚ مَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ لِيَجۡعَلَ عَلَيۡكُم مِّنۡ حَرَجࣲ وَلَٰكِن يُرِيدُ لِيُطَهِّرَكُمۡ وَلِيُتِمَّ نِعۡمَتَهُۥ عَلَيۡكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ
You who believe, when you are about to pray, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, wipe your heads, wash your feet up to the ankles and, if required, wash your whole body. If any of you is sick or on a journey, or has just relieved himself, or had intimate contact with a woman, and can find no water, then take some clean sand and wipe your face and hands with it. God does not wish to place any burden on you: He only wishes to cleanse you and perfect His blessing on you, so that you may be thankful

Small practical obstacles are not trivial here. In an observational study of over three hundred children taking methylphenidate, poor adherence tracked with maternal distress and with strain in the parent and child relationship rather than with symptom severity alone. It cannot tell us which way the influence runs, but it does suggest that the daily business of getting the dose down is bound up with how the whole household is doing.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
A dose that can be taken without a daily fight is the one that actually gets taken.
Check with the pharmacist first, since some capsules lose their timing entirely if they are opened.
That locked design turned out to carry an unplanned kindness: a somewhat longer day, and for many teenagers and adults a softer start and a softer finish, with less jaw clenching and less of the ragged hour when it wears off.
Capsules are not the only option any more. Long acting liquids and chewable forms exist, so a child who cannot manage a pill does not have to be left with nothing or with a dose that runs out by lunchtime.
One kind of long acting tablet works like a tiny pump. Water is drawn in, an inner layer swells, and the medicine is pushed out steadily through a laser drilled hole. The empty shell comes out whole in the stool, which alarms anybody who was not warned.
