If people currently feel exhausting or risky, an animal is often the easiest place to begin. Part of the good is the company and part of it is the shape it puts on a day: fixed times, a walk, someone depending on you. Where a pet is not possible, walking a neighbour's dog or an hour at a shelter gives you some of the same thing.
'made His tranquillity descend into the hearts of the believers' (Quran 48:4). Calm is described as something sent, and it can arrive through very ordinary company.
الفتح

There is no research in this collection on pets, so this rests on clinical observation. What has been tested nearby is sleep: young adults with and without ADHD read emotional facial expressions less well after five days of restricted sleep. A daily rhythm that gets you outside and to bed on time is doing more than filling the hours, though that study was about sleep and not about dogs.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
An animal gives you company with no risk of rejection, and builds a routine into the day as a side effect.
Do not take on an animal you cannot reliably care for, since struggling with it would cost you more than the company gives.
There is a difference between being calm because your partner manages you and being able to steady yourself. The first works right up until the person is not there.
A real apology has no because in it. I would not have shouted if you had not looked at me like that is the argument again, wearing an apology's clothes.
You are allowed more than one feeling about the same thing. Relief and grief when someone dies. Love for a job you would walk out of today. Neither one cancels the other.
