Most people arrive wanting to know about tablets and nothing else, and the risk in that is a plan made only of tablets. Sleep, movement, the shape of the day, who is helping and how: these change what a medicine has to carry. Ask about them first and the medication conversation usually gets shorter and more useful rather than longer.
This explains how treatments work. Never start, stop or change a medication because of something you read here.
'Consult with them about matters, then, when you have decided on a course of action, put your trust in God' (Quran 3:159). Counsel first, then the decision, then the settling.
آل عمران

A paediatric practice guideline for school aged children set out that treatment should follow an accurate diagnosis and should combine medication with behavioural approaches and agreed target outcomes. Combining is the recommendation there, not medication by itself. The guideline is old now and says nothing about newer treatments, though that basic ordering has held up.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
A medicine chosen inside a whole plan has less to do on its own.
The legal category a medicine sits in is not a rating of how dangerous it is. Stimulants sit in a stricter class than several drugs that are considerably harder to come off, and the ordering owes a good deal to history.
When medication works, its best effect is often on everything else you were already trying. Coaching, exercise, a routine: each of them needs enough attention to get started, and attention is the thing in short supply.
A child who barely touches lunch may still eat a normal amount across the day. Look at breakfast and dinner before concluding that they are not eating.
