Going through the skin skips the first pass through the liver and smooths out the peak, which changes the timing and sometimes how well it is tolerated. It carries its own troubles: skin reactions, patches that lift off in the heat, and having to remember to take one off as well as put one on. Even so, when the obstacle is the route rather than the medicine, it is worth asking a prescriber whether another route exists for that drug.

Where no water can be found for washing before prayer, 'take some clean sand and wipe your face and hands with it. God does not wish to place any burden on you' (Quran 5:6). An alternative provided for the person who cannot manage the usual way is a familiar shape in the religion.
المائدة

You who believe, when you are about to pray, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, wipe your heads, wash your feet up to the ankles and, if required, wash your whole body. If any of you is sick or on a journey, or has just relieved himself, or had intimate contact with a woman, and can find no water, then take some clean sand and wipe your face and hands with it. God does not wish to place any burden on you: He only wishes to cleanse you and perfect His blessing on you, so that you may be thankful

Second choices tend to rest on thinner evidence, and that is worth saying plainly. A systematic review of bupropion in children and adolescents found some benefit for those who had not responded to stimulants or could not tolerate them, on the basis of small studies. That is a different drug rather than a patch, so it says nothing about skin delivery. What it shows is the general pattern: alternatives do exist, and their evidence base is usually smaller than the first line one.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
If the barrier is the route rather than the drug, changing the route is the smallest useful change to make.
Never cut a patch or change how it is worn without asking the prescriber, since that alters the dose.
In practice the non-stimulants turn up more often as an addition than on their own. A stimulant in the morning with guanfacine alongside it is a common shape.
After a message has been delivered, the cell hoovers up what is left over and packs it away to use again. A reuptake inhibitor simply slows that hoovering down.
A generic holds the same active molecule as the brand. What can differ is how much of it reaches you and how fast, because the permitted range is a range and the other ingredients are not the same.
