Read the comparison charts that way and they stop being lists of harms. They turn into a set of levers: this one settles, this one gets you moving, this one is heavy on the appetite. Then the question is not which drug is best, but which profile fits the person in front of you, including the things they have said they will not put up with.

In a small randomised trial, inactive adults with insomnia who simply reached standard public health activity levels improved both their sleep quality and their mood. There were 41 participants, so it is a modest study. It shows the same principle from the other side: whether something helps depends on what a person happens to need, and sleep and mood are not separate accounts.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
The same effect changes value depending on what the person needs it to do.
No option comes without a cost. The useful question is not which medicine has side effects, it is which side effects you could live with.
Try putting a sentence between you and the mood: this is what my brain is doing right now. It does not make me a bad person, and it does not mean I cannot cope. It just feels that way today.
Sometimes what is most missing is not mood but drive: the flat, cannot get started feeling. That can be named as the target in its own right.
