Motivation is not one switch. It sits on top of several separate skills, and usually only one of them has failed on a given day. Naming that one gives you something you can actually work with, like laying out the first step the night before, instead of waiting to feel differently about the whole task.
God does not burden any soul with more than it can bear (Quran 2:286). Naming the one part that is stuck keeps the demand on you the size it really is.
God does not burden any soul with more than it can bear: each gains whatever good it has done, and suffers its bad- ‘ Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or make mistakes. Lord, do not burden us as You burdened those before us. Lord, do not burden us with more than we have strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so help us against the disbelievers.’

A systematic review of ADHD and procrastination treats putting things off as a difficulty with self-regulation rather than a lack of care, and it says plainly that the mechanisms behind the link are still unclear. So splitting motivation into separate skills is a useful working frame for understanding yourself, not a settled finding about how the brain divides the work.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
A specific difficulty has a specific fix, while a vague one has none.
Two kinds of pressure get things done: the kind that comes from outside you, like deadlines and someone waiting, and the kind you generate yourself. Both are legitimate.
Rest a hand on your forehead for a second and ask where your attention is actually pointing right now. Not where it ought to be, just where it is.
If some of your appointments make it into the calendar and some do not, that is still better than none of them. Half a system is not a failed system.
