Do it for the handful of jobs that keep wrecking your mornings: the shower, the email, the tidy before guests. Keep the numbers somewhere you can find them again, because after a fortnight you have your own table of real durations, which is worth much more than anyone's advice. Evidence you collected yourself is also far harder to dismiss than evidence someone hands you.
We stayed a day or a part of a day, but ask those who keep count (Quran 23:113). Asking the one who counts, rather than trusting the impression, is the move being modelled.

A clinical review of adult ADHD makes the case for tracking response with actual measures rather than relying on impression, since disorganisation, poor time management and delay are core features that impressions handle badly. It is about monitoring treatment rather than timing your morning. The principle transfers: measure the thing you are trying to change.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
You are more willing to believe a number you watched appear than one you were told.
Getting going is a separate expense from working slowly. Plenty of people move quickly once they are in and still lose forty minutes in the gap between deciding and starting.
For younger children, make the reward small, concrete and soon. Stickers, points, a smiley face, five minutes of something good, handed over the same hour rather than at the end of the week.
A clock with hands shows you how much is left. A number only tells you where you are, which is why the hour can vanish while you keep checking it.
