The history reads the same way every time afterwards: always needed longer, avoided reading aloud, dreaded timed tests, stomach trouble in exam season, marks good enough that nobody looked further. Being assessed now still helps, both for the practical adjustments and for what it does to the story you have been telling about yourself. Slow reader was never the whole of it.
God does not burden any soul with more than it can bear (Quran 2:286). If the load has gone past what you can carry, that is information about the load rather than a verdict on you.

God does not burden any soul with more than it can bear: each gains whatever good it has done, and suffers its bad- ‘ Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or make mistakes. Lord, do not burden us as You burdened those before us. Lord, do not burden us with more than we have strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so help us against the disbelievers.’

Reviews across the lifespan find reading difficulty persisting into adulthood together with executive and emotional difficulties, so arriving at this point undiagnosed is a known pattern rather than a personal failure. Separately, early cognitive behavioural work with anxious adolescents reduced test and social anxiety with benefits still visible two years later, which suggests the anxiety wrapped around all this can be treated in its own right. Neither study looked at university students specifically.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
A way of coping that takes full effort for every page cannot hold when the pages multiply.
If the stress is showing up in your body, with stomach trouble or sleep gone, that deserves a doctor's attention alongside any academic assessment.
If a child is behind in reading, the gap rarely closes on its own with another year of the same. Asking for a proper assessment now is kinder than hoping that maturity will do the work.
A child can be excellent at blending sounds you give them aloud and still not read a word on the page. Practising one part very hard does not mean the whole thing has arrived.
Most children do not pick up reading by sitting near books. Around a fifth need very structured, repetitive teaching before it clicks, and about half of the rest still need a good deal of deliberate instruction, so structured teaching is the ordinary case rather than a special measure.
