Other markers: your voice has some tune in it, you can take in new information, you can read what is happening on someone else's face. Knowing your own list gives you something to aim at that is not simply the absence of distress. Check it now and then on an ordinary day, so you know what your settled actually looks like.
'made His tranquillity descend into the hearts of the believers' (Quran 48:4). Calm is described as something given, so noticing it is closer to receiving than to achieving.
الفتح

A systematic review of interoception, vagal tone and emotional regulation found that both bodily awareness and vagal tone relate to how well people regulate emotion, while noting the two have usually been studied separately rather than together. So the link between noticing your body and being steadier is supported but loosely specified. Which particular signs matter most is not something the research settles.
