Parents who read about how early experience shapes a child's stress system often hear it as a verdict on every time they snapped. That is not what it says. What counts is the ratio: ruptures happen in every house, and the question is whether you come back, say something true and simple, and let the connection mend. Your own state feeds into theirs, so looking after yours is part of the work rather than a treat.
'It is God who brought you out of your mothers' wombs knowing nothing' (Quran 16:78). Everyone starts with nothing and is given what they need through others, slowly.

A meta analysis of early life adversity and cortisol responses to social stress found that adversity was associated with a blunted rather than heightened response, which the authors read as long term recalibration of the stress system. Early environment does leave a physiological mark. That work studied serious adversity, not ordinary parental failures, and it says nothing about how much attunement is enough.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Children learn to come back to steady by being brought back, over and over, by somebody who does it with them.
Wanting sugar, salt and something sharp at the end of a punishing week is physiology talking, not a defect in your character.
Yoga, breath practice, loving kindness, gratitude, forgiveness work, tapping, rubbing your own shoulders: they all seem to move the same dial. Choose whichever one you will actually keep doing.
Excitement and panic run on the same fuel. What turns it into play is feeling safe while it happens.
