Lesson 4 of 6 · Living with an open question

The one sentence

Naming, and nothing else. This is not a technique for making the thought go.

The move

Practising the unfinished sentence

5 minutes or less

  1. Pick one question that will not close.
  2. Write it, then write underneath: I do not have to settle this today.
  3. Notice the pull to add something after that sentence. Do not add it.
  4. Leave the page open and walk away. That is the whole exercise, and it is harder than it looks.

If it does not work

If leaving it open makes the day unbearable, that is a marker rather than a failure, and it belongs in the conversation with a clinician described in the last lesson.

Write the one sentence

A specific plan works better than a good intention. Fill both halves in your own words.

When
I will
Put it in your calendar

Pick a day and a time and you will get a calendar file to open. Nothing is sent anywhere.
