The one sentence
Name the moment, then name the one thing you will do with it. Write it the way you would say it out loud.

Naming it as a loss

- Write down what was lost. Not what did not happen. What was lost.
- Notice that you may never have said it in those words, because nobody around you used them.
- You do not have to show this to anybody.
- A loss nobody acknowledged is still a loss, and naming it is not making a fuss.
If it does not work
If writing it feels like claiming too much, notice that you would not say that to somebody else in your position, and that the comparison you are making is with people whose loss was visible.
