How it holds itself in place

This is the part that makes loneliness self sustaining, so follow it round once slowly. The loop does not need anyone to be unkind to you for it to keep turning.

Nobody in the loop is being cruel, and every turn round it widens the gap it started from. The diagram shows a loop running through: The gap you feel, then Threat detection turns up, then Ambiguity reads as rejection, then You pull back and give less, then Others give back less warmth.
