Mixing, and being hurt, and still mixing

It was narrated from Ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: the believer who mixes with people and bears their annoyance with patience will have a greater reward than the believer who does not mix with people and does not put up with their annoyance.

This is the central text of the topic, and the striking part is what it takes for granted. It does not promise that mixing with people will be pleasant. It assumes there will be harm in it and rates the person who mixes anyway above the one who stays out. Notice also what it does not say about the one who stays out. He receives less. He is not called anything.

That matters, because most people who have withdrawn withdrew after something happened, and concluded from it that withdrawal was correct. This report grants the something and still comes down the other way. Two chains carry it and the Ibn Umar wording above is the plainer of the two; the parallel is cited alongside it.

The Muslim who mixes with people and is patient with their harm is better than the one who does not mix and is not patient. The parallel wording, cited alongside the plainer one, because two chains carry this and it is the text the whole topic turns on.

Yahya bin Wath-thab narrated:"From a Shaikh among the Companions of the Prophet (s.a.w) , I think it is from the Prophet(s.a.w), who said: 'The Muslim who mixes with the people and he is patient with their harm is better than the Muslim who does not mix with the people and is not patient with their harm
