  1. Pick one person you already know slightly.
  2. Ask for something specific and small and time bound. Not let us meet up sometime.
  3. Say the day and the thing. Are you free Thursday for a coffee after asr.
  4. Send it. Do not rewrite it more than once.

If it does not work

If they say no, that is one answer from one person on one Thursday and it is not information about whether people want you around. Ask somebody else within the week rather than waiting until it stops stinging.
