Lesson 3 of 6 · What Islam actually asks of a parent
Mercy, in the Sunnah, and it is not sentimental
Three reports. In the first, a man watches the Prophet, peace be upon him, kiss his grandson and remarks that he has ten children and has never kissed one of them, and the answer he gets is that whoever is not merciful to others will not be treated mercifully. In the second, the merciful are shown mercy by the Most Merciful, and the instruction is to be merciful on the earth.
And the third is the one to keep. Anas served the Prophet for ten years, from boyhood, and reports that he was never once told uff, and was never asked why did you do that, or why did you not do that.
Qur’an and Sunnah
The first of the three, and the answer given to a man who had never kissed any of his ten children is that whoever shows no mercy is shown none.
Narrated Abu Huraira:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) kissed Al-Hasan bin `Ali while Al-Aqra' bin H`Abis at-Tamim was sitting beside him. Al-Aqra said, "I have ten children and I have never kissed anyone of them," Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) cast a look at him and said, "Whoever is not merciful to others will not be treated mercifully

The second. The merciful are shown mercy by the Most Merciful, and the instruction is to be merciful on the earth.
Abdullah bin 'Amr narrated that the Messenger of Allah said:"The merciful are shown mercy by Ar-Rahman. Be merciful on the earth, and you will be shown mercy from Who is above the heavens. The womb is named after Ar-Rahman, so whoever connects it, Allah connects him, and whoever severs it, Allah severs him

Narrated Anas:I served the Prophet (ﷺ) for ten years, and he never said to me, "Uf" (a minor harsh word denoting impatience) and never blamed me by saying, "Why did you do so or why didn't you do so?
