Sometimes it is help, sometimes only company; asking spares you both the wrong gift.
Whoever eases a believer's hardship, the Prophet ﷺ said, Allah will ease his. The kindest help is the help they actually need, so ask first.
الشورى
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَجَابُواْ لِرَبِّهِمۡ وَأَقَامُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَمۡرُهُمۡ شُورَىٰ بَيۡنَهُمۡ وَمِمَّا رَزَقۡنَٰهُمۡ يُنفِقُونَ
respond to their Lord; keep up the prayer; conduct their affairs by mutual consultation; give to others out of what We have provided for them
