People find half siblings. Sometimes they find that the story they were told about their birth was not the story. That is a great deal to receive by email on a Tuesday afternoon, and it can need real support afterwards. Where a child is concerned the usual instinct is to wait, since it is their genetic information and their identity, and the decision keeps well until they can make it themselves.
We know what his soul whispers to him: We are closer to him than his jugular vein (Quran 50:16). Whatever a test turns up about where you came from, none of it is news to God.

A systematic review of stigma and help-seeking found a small to moderate but consistent deterrent effect, with shame and fear of disclosure among the barriers people report most often. Things that feel private stay unsaid unless somebody opens the door. That review is about mental health help-seeking rather than genetic testing, so it speaks to why this would not come up on its own, not to what people find.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Information about where you came from is never neutral, and it arrives whether or not you were ready for it.
Try not to ask why. If the person knew why, they would probably have sorted it out already, and the question tends to land like an accusation.
A man who could not get himself to bed kept his bedtime alarm upstairs, where his wife and baby were sleeping. Switching it off meant climbing the stairs, and leaving it meant waking them. The walk to the alarm was the thing he was trying to do anyway.
There is a difference between low mood you have carried all your life and low mood that grew out of years of working twice as hard for half the result. Both are real, and they need treating in a different order.
