Water and sugar free sweets for the mouth, an earlier dose for the sleep, food loaded into breakfast and dinner for the appetite. Most people who stop in the first month stop over something on that list rather than because the medicine was not working. Give it a couple of weeks with the workarounds in place before you decide, unless something is genuinely alarming.

A meta-analysis of adults on stimulants found small but consistent increases in heart rate and blood pressure, a real if usually modest effect that warrants monitoring. In a year long study of routine practice, adults benefited from stimulant and non-stimulant medication alongside substantial dose adjustment and a genuine burden of side effects. Neither says the effects are trivial. Both say that adjustment is normal and that somebody should be keeping an eye on the numbers.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Most early side effects either settle down or can be worked around, so they are worth planning for rather than treating as the verdict.
Chest pain, fainting, a racing heart or any change in mood that worries you means contacting the prescriber straight away rather than waiting it out.
The message is not made fresh each time it is needed. It sits ready in small sacs at the end of the cell, waiting to be tipped out into the gap.
Learn the family rather than the members. If you know roughly how one drug in a class behaves, you already know most of what the others will do.
Two products can hold the identical molecule and still behave differently in a person, because the difference lives in how fast the drug is released. A change of formulation is a real change, and it is a different thing from a change of drug.
