The molecule is acidic and cannot be softened without falling apart, so the fix is in the handling rather than the chemistry. Take it with something in the stomach, and a proper breakfast helps: toast with peanut butter or a milkshake covers a child who does not fancy food in the morning. One nasty experience early on is often enough to end a treatment that would otherwise have worked, which is why a dull detail like this earns its minute.

'God does not wish to place any burden on you' (Quran 5:6) comes in a passage that offers an easier route to those who cannot manage the usual one. Practical adjustments belong in that spirit.
المائدة

You who believe, when you are about to pray, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, wipe your heads, wash your feet up to the ankles and, if required, wash your whole body. If any of you is sick or on a journey, or has just relieved himself, or had intimate contact with a woman, and can find no water, then take some clean sand and wipe your face and hands with it. God does not wish to place any burden on you: He only wishes to cleanse you and perfect His blessing on you, so that you may be thankful

A study of why young people come off ADHD medication found the reasons gathered around side effects, changing need and family attitudes. Side effects sat among the main drivers rather than at the edges. So small handling instructions that head off a horrible morning are doing real work on whether treatment continues at all.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
A medicine only helps while it is still being taken, and unpleasant surprises are what stop that.
Some settings simply suit an attention difficulty better. Expectations set out minute by minute, consequences that arrive the same day, a visible ladder to climb: military life often fits for exactly those reasons.
The alpha-2 medicines work differently again. Picture small ports on the receiving cell that let noise in and let signal leak away, and a medicine that closes them.
The growth effect is usually small: something like a couple of pounds and a centimetre or two less than expected in the first year or two, with most children catching up afterwards. Knowing the size of it helps, because both blank reassurance and quiet dread are worse than the actual number.
