It often gets read as depression or as an early sign of memory trouble, when what has actually happened is that a lifetime of borrowed structure ended on a Friday. Build a frame for the week on purpose: fixed prayer times to anchor the day, one standing commitment with other people, a written list where you can see it. If someone you love has come apart since they stopped working, this is worth raising with their doctor.

A narrative review describes how often ADHD goes unrecognised in adults who are already being treated for something else, partly because the symptoms overlap and partly because people do not see the traits in themselves. Late life is a prime example of that overlap. It is a narrative review, so it describes a clinical pattern rather than measuring how often this happens after retirement.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
A job supplies the deadlines, the prompts and the company that keep a day in shape, and none of that is automatically replaced.
If a young person says they do not feel ready to drive, take that as information rather than something to talk them out of. Plenty of them know their own attention better than the adults around them do.
Some families make it a house rule that driving happens only on a day the medication has been taken. It works because it ties a privilege to safety rather than to obedience.
Cognitive testing done on a day without medication can come out well below what a person can actually do. If a score is going to decide a school placement, make sure the conditions on the day are recorded.
