Too little going on can be as unsettling as too much. A low steady sound covers the sudden little noises that keep snagging your attention. Some people need quiet to concentrate and some need a hum, and neither of those is the correct way round. Say what you need before the class starts, rather than deciding afterwards that the practice is not for you.
He gave you hearing, sight, and minds (Quran 32:9). These were given to each of us differently, so arranging a room to suit yours is reasonable.

A Cochrane review of exercise during cancer treatment found the benefit varied with the type of exercise done, which is a plain reminder that the conditions around movement change what comes out of it. That review looked at the form of exercise rather than the room it happened in. Nothing here tests background noise, so treat this as a sensible adjustment rather than a studied one.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
A steady background sound masks the sudden ones, which are the sort that pull attention away.
When nobody has checked whether a benefit lasts, that is not the same as finding out it does not. Following people up for a year costs money that most studies never had.
If you are the therapist, you do not need to become the movement teacher as well. Sending somebody to a person trained for it is the better version of helping.
A few sessions give you an effect that fades. A few months of it starts to change your baseline. Plan for the longer version if you can.
