For a lot of people the problem is not the maths, it is what happens inside them when the maths does not come immediately. That surge of frustration is what makes them push the book away. A short burst of movement beforehand seems to lower the whole reaction, so being stuck stays annoying rather than becoming unbearable. Watch for that change as much as for better answers.
Have no fear of being overtaken and do not be dismayed (Quran 20:77). The instruction to move came with the fear addressed alongside it, not after it had gone.

Exercise programmes in older adults living at home produced small to moderate reductions in fear of falling, which is one clean example of movement reducing a specific fear rather than fitness. Different fear, different population, so the read across is partial. It does show the effect is not only about attention or mood in general.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Movement takes the edge off fear and frustration, and it is usually the feeling rather than the difficulty that ends the attempt.
Moving your body and being with people you like are the two most reliable things for feeling well. Doing both at once is not a trick, it is just efficient.
Slow movement practices seem to help mood, sleep and the general hum of stress. Bringing that background level down often does more for your concentration than trying to concentrate harder.
Chasing the big hit is a trap. Aim for the quieter satisfaction you can have most weeks, because that is the one that lasts.
