If you are built to seek out intensity, exercise can turn into another place to chase it: further, faster, more extreme, until you are injured or bored. The steadier version looks less impressive and it is still there in ten years. Watch for the moment when a session stops being enjoyable and starts being a way of getting a jolt. That is the point to ease off.
Go at a moderate pace (Quran 31:19). Moderation is given as an instruction about how to move, not as a lack of ambition.
لقمان
وَٱقۡصِدۡ فِي مَشۡيِكَ وَٱغۡضُضۡ مِن صَوۡتِكَۚ إِنَّ أَنكَرَ ٱلۡأَصۡوَٰتِ لَصَوۡتُ ٱلۡحَمِيرِ

A review of physical activity and health that is candid about the downsides names injury, disordered eating and burnout among the risks. It is a narrative review rather than a pooled analysis, so treat it as a considered overview. The risks it lists cluster at the intense end, which is the argument for aiming lower and lasting longer.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
A satisfaction you can repeat holds you steady, while a peak has to be chased higher each time.
If exercise has started to feel compulsory, or you are training through injuries, that is worth talking through with someone rather than pushing on.
Give a new habit two months rather than two weeks, and change one thing at a time. The old line about thirty days sets you up to feel like a failure on day thirty one.
Give yourself an hour rather than a fortnight. A short window creates the pressure that gets a thing started, where a long one quietly fills up with everything else.
How often you move matters more than how hard. Pick something you would still do on a mediocre Tuesday.
