First studies are usually small, run by people who believe in the thing, and more likely to reach print when they come out well. Replication brings the numbers down. So when something new arrives with large claims attached, the sensible move is not refusal but waiting a while and watching what the second and third studies say.
This explains how treatments work. Never start, stop or change a medication because of something you read here.
'do not rush to recite before the revelation is fully complete' (Quran 20:114). Waiting for the whole of something before speaking on it is a discipline, not timidity.

The long follow up of the large multimodal treatment study is a plain example. Children assigned to different treatments did differ at first, but by adulthood the initial advantage of the assigned treatment had faded, and outcomes were worse than in comparison peers whichever arm they had been in. That is a sobering result about how long early gains last rather than a claim that treatment does not help.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
The earliest results are the ones most likely to flatter, and the average settles as more studies arrive.
If the patch brings a rash, it is usually a reaction to the medicine passing through the skin rather than to the sticky backing. Worth knowing, because switching brand or trying a kinder tape will not fix it.
Mechanism is a moving thing, so it is easier to watch than to read. A university made animation of what happens at the junction will teach you more in ten minutes than a page of description.
Learn the family rather than the members. If you know roughly how one drug in a class behaves, you already know most of what the others will do.
