So telling you that leaving it late is a bad plan tends to fail, because you have evidence and the other person does not. The honest version is narrower. The burst is real and it does not scale. It can carry two thousand words and it cannot carry a dissertation, a house move or a job that runs all year. Rather than giving up the burst, put deadlines in earlier than the real one, set by someone other than you, so the work arrives in pieces the burst can actually cover.
Do not say of anything, I will do that tomorrow (Quran 18:23). The easy confidence about future time is named as the trouble, and named gently.

A cluster analysis of 1,879 university students found the combined presentation of ADHD carried the highest risk of procrastination, of feeling depleted and of disengaging from study. Alongside it, a meta analysis of 691 correlations names task aversiveness, low belief in your own ability and impulsiveness as the consistent predictors of putting things off, which points at self regulation rather than laziness. Both are cross sectional, so they describe who tends to be affected rather than what changes it.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
A strategy that pays off some of the time is much harder to drop than one that never works.
If an hour of real work reliably eats two hours of clock, book two. You do not have to become a better estimator to end up with a schedule that works.
Fun things serve the present. Important things serve the future. Put like that, you can see why the advice to just do the important thing is asking rather a lot.
Long stretches of time are where people dissolve. If a whole afternoon is unusable for you, stop trying to use it as an afternoon and cut it into pieces with edges.
