Learning drug by drug never ends and never transfers. Learning the sequence means you can place something you have never heard of and ask a sensible question about it. It also shows you where your knowledge runs out, which is the more useful half. Nobody outside prescribing needs to advise on a dose, and everyone involved benefits from following the reasoning.

'we are not skilled at dream-interpretation' (Quran 12:44). Knowing the edge of your competence and saying so plainly is part of being competent.

Class level reasoning is how the field itself copes with gaps. A systematic review compared the competing medications for adult ADHD indirectly, precisely because head to head trials do not exist, and offered that as a basis for ranking the options. Indirect comparison is weaker than testing two drugs against each other. It is what you are left with when the direct evidence was never collected.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
A pattern you understand carries over to the next case, and a memorised list does not.
Understanding a mechanism is not the same as being qualified to advise on a medicine, and that line is worth keeping visible.
Saying that medication helps is not the same as saying everyone should be on it. If you have walked in braced for a push, it is fine to say so at the start.
These medicines have been in use since roughly the 1930s, so there is far more accumulated experience with them than with most psychiatric drugs. That does not settle every question, but you are not part of an experiment.
If swallowing the capsule is the sticking point, ask whether yours is the bead type that can be opened and tipped onto a spoonful of soft food. The little beads go down unchewed and the medicine still lasts as long as it should.
