Screens, browser blockers, a plug timer on the television: pick whichever you will not immediately undo. The point is to move the decision away from the moment when the pull is strongest and you have the least left to resist with. Give yourself a way out for the odd genuine evening, but make the way out slightly awkward.
Perform the regular prayers from the time the sun is past its zenith till the darkness of the night (Quran 17:78). The times are set outside the person, which is exactly what makes them hold.
الإسراء
أَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ لِدُلُوكِ ٱلشَّمۡسِ إِلَىٰ غَسَقِ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَقُرۡءَانَ ٱلۡفَجۡرِۖ إِنَّ قُرۡءَانَ ٱلۡفَجۡرِ كَانَ مَشۡهُودࣰ ا

A path analysis in medical students found the link between impulsivity and feeling that your thinking had declined ran through phone use, delay at study and at bedtime, short sleep and daytime tiredness. It is a single cross sectional model in one student group, so the arrows are proposed rather than proven. It does place the phone squarely inside the chain rather than off to one side.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
A choice made in advance does not have to compete with how good the thing feels at eleven at night.
If the only real feedback a child gets arrives every ten weeks, it will not shape a single Tuesday. A report at the end of term is a record, not a motivator.
The pattern usually ends the same way. Nothing feels urgent, then the deadline lands all at once, and the child panics and produces something poor or nothing at all.
You do not have to agree that it will take longer. Add the extra time anyway and let the week prove you right or wrong. If you finish early, you have a spare twenty minutes, which is not a punishment.
