Not a summary of those words. The actual phrase: 'you said she has her standards and you will never meet them, and your eyes went red when you said it'. Their own wording carries the state back with it, where a tidy paraphrase would only describe the state from outside. You can do this openly, and asking is enough of a bridge: could we go back to that for a minute?
Job's first words are a plain report of his condition: 'Suffering has truly afflicted me, but you are the Most Merciful of the merciful' (Quran 21:83). The state is named exactly before anything at all is done with it.

In a large study of self reported emotion across more than two thousand stimuli, experience sorted into 27 distinct categories joined by gradients, and specific labels such as amusement captured what people felt better than broad dimensions like pleasant and unpleasant. That work was about the vocabulary people reach for, not about how to run a conversation. It does back the instinct that the particular word matters and that a general substitute loses part of it.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
A person's exact words are tied to the feeling they came out of, so repeating them brings the feeling rather than a report about it.
Point at the body. 'Your hands went up just then', or 'you put your head in your hands', gives a feeling something solid to stand on.
If the size of the feeling does not match the size of what just happened, it is probably carrying something older into the room.
When someone pours out a lot at once, catch the two or three words carrying the weight and give those back to them, in order.
