Lesson 3 of 6 · Anxiety is not weak iman
Read what the Trench verses describe
Hearts reaching the throats. Eyes swerving. The believers shaken with a severe shaking.
That is not a metaphor for mild discomfort. That is an acute physical fear response, described in the Qur'an, happening to the Companions, in the presence of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
If a panic response were evidence of a faith problem, this is the passage where you would expect to be told so. You are not told so. The passage describes the state and moves on.
Qur’an and Sunnah
Eyes swerving, hearts reaching the throats, described in the Qur'an, happening to the Companions in his presence, peace be upon him.
They massed against you from above and below; your eyes rolled [with fear], your hearts rose into your throats, and you thought [ill] thoughts of God
Qur’an 33:10
If a fear response of the size described here were evidence of a faith problem, this is the passage where you would expect to be told so, and you are not. It describes the state and moves on.
There the believers were sorely tested and deeply shaken
Qur’an 33:11
