Carrying a lossStep 8 of 8

Lesson 5 of 6 · What makes it harder

The one sentence

Telling one person. Not a conversation you have to prepare for.

The move

Removing one thing that is adding to it

10 minutes or less

  1. Pick one: going over the last days, avoiding a place entirely, keeping everybody at arm's length, or somebody who keeps telling you how to grieve.
  2. For the replaying, notice it and get up and change rooms. It is not respect and it is not remembering.
  3. For the person, you do not have to correct them. You can just see them less for a while.
  4. One at a time.

If it does not work

Avoiding a place is worth going gently on. If you are not ready, drive past it rather than going in, and let that count.

Write the one sentence

A specific plan works better than a good intention. Fill both halves in your own words.
