Naming the burden they spared you turns a thank-you into being truly seen.
There is no favour owed us by anyone, the Prophet ﷺ said with humility, without our returning thanks for it. Naming what their act spared you is thanks made specific.
إبراهيم
وَإِذۡ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمۡ لَئِن شَكَرۡتُمۡ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمۡۖ وَلَئِن كَفَرۡتُمۡ إِنَّ عَذَابِي لَشَدِيدࣱ
Remember that He promised, “If you are thankful, I will give you more, but if you are thankless, My punishment is terrible indeed.” ’
