Prescribed amphetamine shows up on a standard screen as amphetamine, because that is what it is. The test cannot tell the pharmacy from anything else, so the explaining is left to you, usually at the worst possible moment. Tell occupational health in advance where you can, keep the dispensing label rather than decanting everything into a pill box, and ask for a dated letter naming the drug and the dose. It costs one afternoon and saves a great deal.

Amphetamines are an established treatment for adults with ADHD. A Cochrane review found they reduced symptoms, while noting that the trials were short and dropout was high, so the longer-term safety picture is still thin. That is the honest thing to hand an employer: a legitimate prescribed medicine with a real evidence base behind it.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
A screen only reports the chemical it finds, so the meaning has to come from documents you supply.
If your role is safety critical, check the policy with occupational health rather than assuming a letter settles it.
That locked design turned out to carry an unplanned kindness: a somewhat longer day, and for many teenagers and adults a softer start and a softer finish, with less jaw clenching and less of the ragged hour when it wears off.
Guanfacine and clonidine arrived here sideways. Both were blood pressure medicines that doctors noticed helped with impulsivity, and the formal approval came long afterwards.
A pharmacy refusing a valid prescription is often working from a made-up rule or a plain mistake. It can usually be escalated, and it usually resolves fast.
