Studies of children growing up through poverty, hunger and worse keep landing on the same finding: those who did well usually had somebody who treated them as worth something. It does not have to be a parent. When you are choosing a club, the instructor matters more than the syllabus, so watch how they speak to the children before you sign anything.
A strong, trustworthy man is the best to hire (Quran 28:26). Trustworthiness is named alongside capability, which is exactly the pair you are looking for in someone who will spend time with your child.

A multicentre randomised trial found a structured programme combining climbing with psychotherapy reduced depression more than exercise alone, which puts the human context of movement inside the effect rather than outside it. That trial tested a therapist led programme rather than a mentor relationship. The overlap is partial, so treat it as pointing in the same direction rather than as measuring the same thing.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Being held in someone's good opinion, week after week, slowly becomes how a child sees themselves.
You do not have to walk into a room full of strangers for this to work. The moving and the attention are the active parts, and both travel happily to your living room.
One minute of moving between tasks. Star jumps, a lap of the corridor, anything that gets the blood going before you sit down to the next thing.
End a session with a few minutes of sitting still. The styles that close with quiet seem to help most with the pause before reacting.
