Stopping after a single class is one of the commonest routes to believing that nothing helps. Trying the second one is a normal next step rather than an unusual request. Be specific about what went wrong the first time, since not suiting me can mean a weak effect, a bad side effect, or the wrong shape of day, and each points somewhere different.
This explains how treatments work. Never start, stop or change a medication because of something you read here.

The second class is a real option rather than a consolation prize. A Cochrane systematic review found that amphetamines reduced ADHD symptoms in adults, while flagging short trials and high dropout, which leaves the longer term safety picture uncertain. So the case for trying it is decent, and the honest version of that case includes what those trials did not follow up.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
The two families do not do quite the same thing in the brain, so failing on one does not predict the other.
Some students do well on a long acting dose through the day plus a small short acting one in the evening for studying. Which short acting drug is chosen matters, because some are gentler on sleep than others.
Put today next to the night before it, out loud and often. How did today go after seven hours of sleep, next to the day that followed staying up until three?
Stopping medication rises sharply in the early teenage years. If that is where you are, it helps to know this is the usual pattern rather than a sign that something has gone wrong with your child.
