You may have met a striking figure quoted about untreated ADHD and years of life lost. Take the point underneath rather than the number: risk from accidents, substance use, short sleep and treatment that gets dropped accumulates quietly over decades. Each one is worth a small ongoing effort now, and none of them asks you to overhaul your character.
We have honoured the children of Adam and carried them by land and sea; We have provided good sustenance for them (Quran 17:70). The body you are looking after is spoken of as honoured and provided for, so tending it is not vanity.

There is no mortality study behind this entry, so the widely quoted life expectancy figure is not something to lean on here. What the evidence does cover is why ADHD is underdiagnosed and undertreated in adults, and how often it goes unrecognised behind other conditions that get noticed first. That describes one plain route by which risks go unaddressed for years.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Small risks repeated over years add up in a way that no single bad week ever does.
If a frightening statistic lands as despair rather than motivation, put it down and talk to somebody, because fear makes a poor engine for any of this.
The idea that attention problems are a moral failing is older than the diagnosis itself. An early medical name for this put it down to defective moral control, so if you grew up hearing that you simply were not trying, you were hearing an echo of that.
Some people will not believe this exists whatever you show them. You are allowed to give a short honest answer and then let the conversation go.
The feeling that you were let in by mistake is common among capable people with ADHD, and it has a plain source. A patchy performance history gives you real evidence of inconsistency, and fraud is simply the wrong explanation for it.
