They have heard the virtue speech many times already and it has never once helped. Admitting that you also struggle to exercise, or to keep up with people, takes away the ladder they are expecting you to stand on top of. From there you can actually work out one small thing to try. Honesty here is not unprofessional, it is what makes the next bit possible.
When the foolish address them, they reply with peace (Quran 25:63). The answer given is mild rather than sharp, even when there would be plenty to say.
الفرقان

A Cochrane review of programmes designed to reduce sitting time in older adults found only small reductions and uncertain effects on wellbeing. Carefully built programmes with staff and funding move behaviour by modest amounts. That is a reason to be gentle with a person doing it alone, without a research team behind them.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
People take advice from someone standing next to them, not from someone talking down at them.
For a child having a hard time, one adult who plainly thinks well of them makes more difference than almost anything else. A coach or a teacher can be that person.
An hour a day of moving enough to warm you and shorten your breath. Keep a record of it, on a watch or on a scrap of paper, because meeting a number you can see turns out to be quietly satisfying.
A silent room is not restful for everybody. If every cough and creaking knee pulls at you, ask for music or bring headphones with something plain in them.
