- Write down three things they do.
- Beside each one, mark whether it is a rule about what you do, or an intrusion into what you feel and think.
- Rules and supervision are ordinary parenting, even when they are heavy handed.
- Guilt, love withdrawal and conditional regard are the other kind, and that is the kind that does damage.
If it does not work
If everything lands in the second column, that is worth knowing and it is not an accusation you have to make out loud to anybody.
