Lesson 2 of 6 · Why you cannot argue your way out of it
The one sentence
Still noticing. You are not changing what you do in the conversation yet, and nothing is being said to anyone.
The move
Not arguing with the guilt
5 minutes or less
- Notice that the guilt arrives whether or not you did anything.
- Stop trying to work out whether it is deserved. That is the engine running, not a question with an answer.
- Say once: I can feel this and still do what I decided.
- Then do the thing you decided, with the guilt present.
If it does not work
If the guilt gets louder rather than quieter, that is expected in the first weeks. It is a habit with a long history and it fades by being outlasted rather than by being won.
Write the one sentence
A specific plan works better than a good intention. Fill both halves in your own words.
When
I will
Put it in your calendar
