Lesson 5 of 6 · What feeds it
The one sentence
Noticing and naming. No reply is required from you on the day.
The move
Reducing one feeder
10 minutes or less
- Pick one: rehearsing the next conversation, explaining yourself to relatives, checking whether they are upset, or hoping this time will be different.
- For the rehearsing, notice and get up.
- For the explaining, say less rather than better. Explanations invite negotiation.
- One week, one feeder.
If it does not work
Hoping this time will be different is the hardest one and letting it go feels like giving up on them. It is not the same thing, and you can stop expecting change without deciding anything is over.

A specific plan works better than a good intention. Fill both halves in your own words.
