Lesson 5 of 6 · Getting real about safety
The one sentence
One contact, made once, on a device that is not watched. No plan written anywhere findable.
The move
Thinking about safety without acting yet
10 minutes or less
- Do not tell them you are leaving, and do not tell them you have been reading this.
- Think about where you would go, and who you would tell.
- Think about what you would need in ten minutes. Documents, phone, medication, keys.
- Separation raises risk rather than lowering it, which is exactly why planning comes before doing.
- Speak to a specialist service before you act. That is the step.
If it does not work
If there is a weapon in the home, if you have been strangled, or if threats to kill have been made, that is the highest risk group and it needs a specialist today rather than a plan next week.
Write the one sentence
A specific plan works better than a good intention. Fill both halves in your own words.
When
I will
Put it in your calendar
Pick a day and a time and you will get a calendar file to open. Nothing is sent anywhere.
