People hide this part longer than anything else, which means it is usually the last thing to get any help. If you are the one struggling, saying it out loud to whoever treats you tends to feel like relief rather than confession. If you are the clinician, ask about it plainly and early, in the same tone you would use to ask about sleep.
This explains how treatments work. Never start, stop or change a medication because of something you read here.
'You will not be blamed if you make a mistake, only for what your hearts deliberately intend' (Quran 33:5). Money lost to an impulse you never planned sits closer to a mistake than to intent.

A systematic review of economic evaluations found ADHD medications generally came out as cost-effective, while noting wide variation in the assumptions the models rested on. That is health system spending rather than household finances, and it measures nobody's overdraft. It does show the costs of untreated difficulty are taken seriously enough to be modelled at all, which is worth knowing when the topic feels private and shameful.
