That was designed in on purpose. Because the gate is an enzyme rather than a coating, there is no way to get in front of it, and the medicine comes up at the pace the body sets whatever anyone does to the capsule. For a household nervous about keeping a controlled drug, or for someone with a history around substances, this is a genuine difference and a fair thing to raise with the prescriber.

'I trust in Him; let everyone put their trust in Him' (Quran 12:67). Jacob tells his sons to take a sensible precaution and to trust God in the same breath, which is how a safeguard and reliance sit together.

The worry about stimulants and addiction has been looked at directly. A randomised clinical trial in adults who had both ADHD and cocaine use disorder found that extended release mixed amphetamine salts improved ADHD symptoms and increased cocaine abstinence compared with placebo. That was one trial in one difficult group and it does not make stimulants risk free, but it does cut against the assumption that they always make things worse.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
The body has to unlock the molecule before it does anything, and that step sets the pace.
Any history of substance misuse belongs in the conversation before a stimulant is chosen rather than after.
When you are weighing up whether a teenager is ready for something, it helps to think in two thirds. A fifteen year old may be handling responsibility more like a twelve or thirteen year old.
Some students do well on a long acting dose through the day plus a small short acting one in the evening for studying. Which short acting drug is chosen matters, because some are gentler on sleep than others.
Doing the behavioural work alongside a medicine can mean managing on less of it. That matters most for the side effects that follow the size of the dose.
